CD Compilation info
Hello everyone,
I was brainstorming to come up with a good, legal means by which to advertise
the site to other music fans in the area. Commercial radio advertising and the
like is out of the question for a while, all free money is going to new things
to promote local live shows.
If there is enough interest, I have this in mind:
* A CD compilation of tracks by local artists.
* The CDs would be given out for free, and marked "NOT FOR RESALE"
* Each track would have a voice intro announcing the band name and band's website.
(My business partner on another project happens to do radio spots during his day job)
* The artist could elect to just have a clip, full song(s), or watermark the track as a demo.
My thoughts are to produce about 3000 CDs for the first run, and try to deliver them to counters
of record stores (Relative Theory, Birdland) and music stores (Alpha, AL&M, Guitar Center, etc).
The only catch is the material can't be a cover song, or else mechanical reproduction laws come into
play.
My vision is a windowless envelope laserprinted with the HRConnect infos followed by the bands that
are on the disc. The disc itself will have a description and hopefully the artist info assuming my
equipment can print that small.
I figure it will be the "first edition" of more to come.
This is a low cost method as we happen to have a CD/DVD duplication machine (a 15 year old unit that
we repaired and modified). I've also figured out a way to print on the discs using an old
computer peripheral called a plotter -- it basically writes on the disc with a felt tip pen, saving
costs of expensive CD printer supplies and stick-on labels.
Window-less paper envelopes should make it thru a laser printer. There we have it, budget marketing!
We can also jam in cards containing infomation on where to purchase
full recordings of the artists that appear on the discs. I already have the cardstock to print on.
If you would be interested in having your work make it onto one of these free CDs, please
email "webmaster@hrconnect.com" with a subject of "promo cd"
If you have a suggestion of a good place to distribute the discs, feel free to email as well.
Any suggestions? You know it!! Email!
Thanks everyone!!
